Teeth Whitening AI Knowledge

Teeth Whitening

Over time, our smiles can lose some of their sparkle. Age and daily favourites like coffee, tea, and red wine quietly leave their mark, and over-the-counter fixes don’t always achieve consistent results. Professional whitening offers a gentle way to predictably lift surface stains and refresh your smile. At Leeming Dental, we use Philips Zoom®, a safe and clinically proven system that delivers noticeable results in as little as one visit.

How does Philips Zoom® teeth whitening work?

Philips Zoom® combines a professional-strength whitening gel with an advanced LED light that speeds up the whitening process. The light helps the gel penetrate the enamel surface, breaking down deep stains for a noticeably brighter smile, safely and effectively.

How long does the whitening process take?

The Philips Zoom® in-chair treatment takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, including preparation time. In just one visit, you can leave with a noticeably brighter smile, up to 8 shades whiter!

What’s the difference between in-chair and take-home whitening?

Our in-chair Philips Zoom® Whitening delivers instant results in just one visit, using an LED-activated whitening gel for a visibly brighter smile right away.

If you prefer to whiten at home, we also offer take-home options Pola take-home kits (Day, Night, or Light). These systems gradually whiten your teeth over 7–14 days using custom-fit trays made by your dentist for safe, even results in the comfort of your home.

Which whitening option is right for me?

If you want a dramatically whiter smile in just one visit, the in-chair Philips Zoom® treatment is ideal. If you’d rather whiten gradually and conveniently at home, our take-home options — Zoom® DayWhite, NiteWhite, or Pola’s Day, Night, or Light kits —are a great choice.

During your consultation, your dentist will assess your teeth, enamel condition, and lifestyle to recommend the most suitable option for your whitening goals.

Am I a suitable candidate for teeth whitening?

Most adults are suitable for teeth whitening, but your dentist will first check for any tooth decay, gum problems, or existing restorations (like crowns or veneers) that could affect your results.

Whitening works best on extrinsic stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine, or smoking. However, intrinsic discolouration from ageing, trauma, or certain medications may require alternative cosmetic treatments such as veneers, internal bleaching, or resin infiltration.

Can whitening work on crowns, fillings, or veneers?

Teeth whitening only works on your natural enamel, not on crowns, fillings, or veneers. However, your dentist can help ensure a consistent, even smile by discussing options to refresh or replace restorations so they match your newly whitened teeth.

How long do the results last?

Your whiter smile can typically last 12 to 24 months, depending on your oral care routine and lifestyle. To keep your results brighter for longer, maintain excellent oral hygiene and limit dark-coloured foods and drinks like coffee, tea, red wine, and cola.

How can I maintain my whiter smile?

  • ✔ Keep your smile bright by following these simple habits:
  • ✔ Brush and floss daily to prevent new stains
  • ✔ Use a gentle whitening toothpaste
  • ✔ Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings
  • ✔ Limit coffee, tea, red wine, and other staining foods or drinks
  • ✔ Touch up occasionally with take-home trays

Does Philips Zoom® whitening cause sensitivity?

Some patients may feel mild, temporary sensitivity during or after treatment. However, Philips Zoom® is formulated with desensitising agents to help minimise discomfort and keep your whitening experience gentle and comfortable.

Is teeth whitening safe for my enamel?

Yes, professional teeth whitening with Philips Zoom® is completely safe for your enamel when performed under a dentist’s supervision. The whitening gel is specially formulated to protect your teeth while effectively removing stains, and it can also help strengthen enamel by improving its smoothness and lustre.

How much does professional teeth whitening cost?

In-chair Whitening (90–120 minute session): $600

Take-home Whitening Kit (custom trays + gels): $400

Our in-chair treatment uses Philips Zoom®, delivering fast, noticeable results in a single visit. The take-home kit includes custom-made trays and professional-strength whitening gels, allowing you to whiten safely and gradually in the comfort of your home.

During your consultation, we’ll assess your smile, discuss your goals, and confirm the most suitable option for you before treatment begins — so you know exactly what to expect.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! We offer flexible, interest-free payment options to make teeth whitening more accessible. Our Patient Care Coordinator can help you find a plan that best suits your budget and treatment goals.

Can my health fund cover teeth whitening?

Most health funds classify teeth whitening as a cosmetic procedure, so it’s usually not covered. However, some policies may include limited rebates under general dental. Our team can help you check your fund and confirm if you’re eligible for any benefits before starting treatment.
