What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a semi-transparent, hygenic and convenient orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth.

How does the Invisalign system work?

The Invisalign system works via a series of custom-made clear aligners that are designed and fitted in house by your Invisalign trained dentist.

Custom-made clear aligners fabrication takes approx. 3 weeks

Upon fitting, small, translucent attachments will be placed on some teeth and your first aligner will be fitted

You wear each set for approximately two weeks before swapping over to the next set which shifts your teeth incrementally yet again.

By the time you reach your last set of aligners in your treatment plan, your teeth should have reached their final straightened, aligned positions.

What types of Invisalign clear aligners are there?

  •  Invisalign First: To prepare children aged 7-11 years for developing permanent dentition and jaws in their teenage years.
  • Invisalign Teen: For active teens who still have emerging teeth and lower jaw advancement issues.
  • Invisalign Express (i7)/Invisalign Lite: For adults with minor teeth straightening issues involving the front teeth. Ideal for achieving cosmetic corrections within a 3-7 month period.
  • Invisalign Full: A 12-18 month treatment plan designed for adults with mild to moderate orthodontic issues.

What teeth misalignment issues can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign can correct a range of teeth misalignment issues including:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Deep bites
  • Over bites
  • Spaces
  • Cross bites

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign has a number of benefits when straightening your teeth. These include:

  • A firm, comfortable fit that does not irritate your gums or oral soft tissue
  • Virtually transparent so that most people won’t even notice you are wearing them
  • Easy oral care and maintenance since Invisalign aligners are removable
  • Instant removability for eating and social occasions for up to 4 hrs per day
  • Less dental visits for adjustments since you are provided with up to 2 months supply of aligners

Invisalign Treatment

What is the Invisalign treatment process?

The Invisalign treatment process has four treatment stages including:

  1. Initial consultation and assessment
  2. Customised treatment discussion and planning
  3. Fabrication of aligners by Invisalign
  4. Treatment period

How long do I have to wear Invisalign aligners each day?

You need to wear Invisalign aligners for between 20 to 22 hours a day to achieve the best timely results.

When do I change my Invisalign aligners to the next set?

Typically, you should wear each set of Invisalign aligners for a 2 week period. However, please follow your Invisalign dentist’s treatment plan which may vary between individuals.

Do I need to see my dentist often during Invisalign treatment?

Your dentist can provide you with Invisalign aligner sets that will last 6-8 weeks. At the end of each treatment period, you will need to visit your dentist so they can assess your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your next series of clear aligners if required.

How many sets of aligners can I take home?

Usually, you can receive 3 to 4 sets between visits which typically last 6-8 weeks. However, since everybody’s personal situation is different, you should discuss how many sets you need to be provided with at any one time with your Invisalign dentist.

How long does it take before I notice straighter teeth with Invisalign?

Depending on the degree of teeth misalignment you have, you will start to notice your teeth coming into proper alignment within a few months.

Invisalign Costs

What are Invisalign treatment costs?

Invisalign treatment costs depend on how complex your teeth alignment issues are. In general, Invisalign treatment costs range from $2500-$7000 which is comparable to traditional orthodontic treatment such as metal braces.

Can my health fund cover the costs of Invisalign treatment?

If you have taken out extras cover for major dental which includes orthodontic treatment, you should be eligible for a rebate. However, it is best to check with your health insurance

provider for specific details.

Do you offer payment plans for Invisalign treatment at Leeming Dental Centre?

Will I have to pay a consultation fee to find out if Invisalign is right for me?

Not at Leeming Dental. The inclusion of Invisalign consultation fees can vary between dentists. However, we provide  free consultations with our Invisalign-trained dentist so you can make informed decisions about whether Invisalign  treatment is right for you.

Does Invisalign cost more than braces?

Invisalign costs vary between dentists but on average, Invisalign treatment costs are comparable to that of other teeth alignment procedures such as braces.

At your Invisalign consultation, your dentist will inform you on treatment factors that may impact on your value assessment, including effectiveness, comfort, practicality and duration.

Invisalign Day-to-day

Invisalign

Is Invisalign comfortable to wear?

Invisalign treatment is very patient friendly. You may experience some minor pressure discomfort for the first few days of each new set of Invisalign aligners but that feeling usually goes away as your teeth adjust. These pressure sensations are quite normal as your teeth move sequentially and  incrementally towards their final desired positions.

Can I have Invisalign treatment when I am pregnant?

Invisalign aligners are 100% bio-safe and are suitable to be worn during pregnancy. However, alignment treatment of any type can be more challenging because pregnancy hormones may make your teeth looser. Morning symptoms may also impact on your oral hygiene. The best times to start Invisalign treatment when planning your pregnancy are a month before conception or during the second trimester.

Can I sleep while wearing Invisalign aligners?

You pretty much have to because there is a requirement to wear Invisalign aligners for at least 20-22 hours a day to achieve the best results. However, sleeping with them on should not present you with any sleep issues.

You should only take off your aligners for eating, hot drinks, brushing and flossing.

Can I chew gum or smoke while wearing Invisalign aligners?

Doing both while wearing Invisalign aligners is not advised. Chewing gum mays cause your aligners to slip off and smoking will cause discolouration – giving your “invisible” aligners a dark tint. If you need to do either, take your aligners off and keep your eye on the time. Remember 20-22 hours a day minimum is required for your Invisalign aligners to be effective.

If I go travelling for an extended period, can I bring additional sets of aligners with me??

Yes, it is possible. However, regular dental visits are essential to ensure your treatment plan is proceeding according to plan. If it isn’t, your dentist can make the necessary adjustments to following sets of aligners.

That said, everyone’s personal situation is different so consult with your dentist if you are planning to travel.

What do I do if my Invisalign treatment gets painful?

If your Invisalign treatment gets painful, it means you have a treatment-related  problem. Remove your aligners and stop using them until you see your dentist who can assess and resolve the issue.

Generally, this does not usually happen as your Invisalign treatment plan is very carefully designed to minimise any discomfort or stress on your teeth and gums.

Will my speech be affected when wearing Invisalign aligners?

Yes, it will for the first few days of treatment as your tongue gets used to the temporary new contours within your oral cavity.

Once your tongue has settled, any speech impediment you may have experienced will go away.
